Drained peatlands are a disproportionately concentrated greenhouse-gas source: about 0.3% of global land emitting roughly 1.9-2 Gt CO2e per year (~4-5% of anthropogenic emissions), and in the EU about 2% of farmland accounting for roughly a quarter of agricultural emissions.
